A Hull taxi driver is concerned that people are putting themselves in danger by accepting lifts from unlicensed drivers.

Peter Nilsson says that people who offer lifts on social media are breaking the law, and is working with Hull City Council and Humberside Police to put a stop to it.

He says passengers are risking their lives for the sake of saving a few quid: “You don’t know who these people are. “Some people are advertising they can only carry three passengers as they’re two people in the front – driving with his mate who are going round looking for people to take home.

“People who are doing these cheap rides are getting sexually assaulted.”

Mr Nilsson is urging people to trust their services and make sure they get home safe. He says: “Don’t lose faith in us. We’re busy. We do a hard job and we take a lot of abuse at times, but we still crack on. Book your taxis, get to your taxi ranks. The cars will be there to get you home safely. It’s what we do and what we take pride in doing.”
