Experts have spoken of the region’s potential to become a world leader in renewable energy ahead of an East Yorkshire-staged conference this summer.

Bridlington Spa is hosting this year’s (OWC2015) exhibition and conference on 4 June.

The event focuses on investment in skills and growth, internal investment and lean efficiencies. It will also concentrate on cost reduction, UK content and supply chain options, all with a local emphasis.

Event co-sponsor Able UK said the offshore wind farm industry gives the region a “fantastic” chance to turn itself into a key player as a central hub to serve the sector. The company’s Neil Etherington said that Able’s Marine Energy Park can turn this dream into reality.

A leading local business development group said OWC2015 coincides with a “crucial” stage in the development of the area’s offshore wind industry.

Team Humber Marine Alliance (THMA) chairman Mark O’Reilly says four-fifths of the offshore wind farm industry in the North Sea is on the region’s doorstep.

THMA announced that as well as Able UK, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Siemens are the event’s headline lead sponsors.
