A delegation from Indonesia is visiting Hull today to explore potential investment opportunities in our region.

The group is visiting the city for the Chamber Expo, which gets underway at Hull’s Airco Arena later this morning.

Pauline Wade is the director of international trade at the Chamber of Commerce.

She says they’re looking to forge a long term relationship:

“Cultivating relationships, you will get trade and investment. It’s not as simple as just going to a country and expecting an instant response. We want to show that Hull is serious about cultivating international trade links.”

Pauline hopes the visit could lead to establishing long term business links;

“Open up lines of communication between our trading companies and theirs, and it’ll develop creating links as well. We have been working in partnership with Malaysia for the last two years.”

She says they want to re-establish Hull’s reputation as an international trading centre:

“If you read the history of Hull and it’s ports, it was a centre for international trade. We are aiming to put it back on the map again. We have very strong links with South America, our chamber in the Caribbean was launched in 2001.We actually opened our second office there back in March of this year.”
