A pair of knife-wielding street robbers who targeted lone women in Hull have been jailed for 12 years each.

Hull Crown Court heard that Anthony James Hill, 27, and Mark Curds, 42, both of Cambridge Street, Hull, were arrested on January 21 and charged with a spate of four robberies over a 10-day period from January 2.

The court heard the pair had approached women walking alone and threatened them with a knife before demanding that they hand over their valuables.

Speaking after the court case Detective Constable Lee Sims, of Humberside Police, said he was confident that the people of Hull were safer now that the pair had been taken off the streets and jailed.

He said many of their victims were traumatised by their ordeal and left fearing for their safety when they went out.

DC Sims, the officer in charge of the case, said he hoped the sentences would help bring the pair’s victims some closure.

He said he hoped the case would reassure the public that the police leave no stone unturned when they investigate such offences.
