Conquering inflatables, foam and opposition teams was the order of the day for the ‘KCOM Commanders’ as they were crowned champions in the Dove House Hospice ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition.

Based on the TV show from the 1970s, the series of challenges tested the physical and mental strength of the participants with plenty of fun thrown into the mix as well.

Having finished second and third in recent years, the KCOM Commanders finally secured the elusive title whilst helping to raise money for Dove House Hospice at the same time.

Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM community coordinator, said: “It’s a Knockout is a great event and one that we look forward to entering every year.

“There were some very tired legs at the end of it but I don’t think our team felt that too much given that they were the winners. It was a great effort and everyone involved had a really enjoyable day.”

Jethro Shearring, Dove House Hospice fundraising coordinator, added: “With annual running costs of £6.7 million and only 41 days government funding, the hospice is completely reliant on the generosity of companies such as KCOM to continue to provide our services free of charge to the local community.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have had the support of KCOM over the last three years in entering a team. They battled the inflatables alongside 18 other teams this year and the team pulled together to emerge victorious. Once all our sponsorship is in, we are expecting to raise over £15,000 in total which will make a massive difference to the work that we do.”
