Kind-hearted employees at KCOM have donated hundreds of items to Hull Foodbank following a recent collection.

More than 450 items of food and drink were handed over to the charity which has provided over 4,900 three day emergency food supplies to local people in crisis during the past year.

Sarah Sidwell, Hull Foodbank manager, said: “As a team we are very grateful for the continued support from KCOM and how this food collection will change local people’s lives. With 220kg of food donated, this will go towards providing more than 500 meals for people in need.”

The number of people requiring help from the Foodbank is rising all the time.

KCOM Community Coordinator, Brendon Smurthwaite, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our people to get involved in helping the local community and the response we had to the collection was very good.

“There are many reasons why people find themselves in food poverty and the problem can escalate during the summer holidays for families whose children qualify for free school meals.

“Having the collection was an easy way for us to make a difference at an important time of the year.”
