Team Wiggins is taking shape ahead of the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire.

Sir Bradley Wiggins, who is leaving Team Sky in April to lead his own development squad at the event, has announced that German sprinter Marcel Kittel and Dame Sarah Storey will be joining him in the race, which starts in Bridlington.

Kittel returns to the region to compete in the race a year after wearing the first iconic yellow jersey in Harrogate at the Tour de France. Eleven-time Paralympic champion Storey will compete in the women’s race on day two.

The Tour will begin on 1 May with a stage from Bridlington to Scarborough. This will be followed by a stage from Selby to York on 2 May, then the final stage from Wakefield to Leeds on 3 May.

Seven of the teams who raced in last year’s Tour de France will be competing in the race across Yorkshire.

The women’s race will take place on 2 May across four 20km laps of a circuit in York.
