Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair returns to Hull City Hall for another jam-packed day of old-fashioned fun and fun old fashions.

The pop-up vintage shopping event boasts a wide selection across 40+ stalls, selling everything from clothing and homeware to collectables.

The idea for the event started in 2008 when organiser Lou Lou became frustrated with the limited selection of retro wears available in her hometown of Sheffield.

Since then, the fair has gone from strength to strength, travelling across the UK whilst offering vintage lovers the chance to rummage through the rails of countless traders.

“Lou Lou’s celebrates everything nostalgic,” Emily Taysom, Social Media and Press Manager, tells us. “It’s a great chance for you to meet likeminded vintage enthusiasts, as well as find a few treasures.”

On top of all this there will be a tea party, where you can grab delicious sweet treats and enjoy a cup of tea in traditional china.

The fair offers the opportunity to explore and shop to your heart’s content from a range of friendly and helpful stalls.

“We’ve also got a pop-up salon,” Emily enthuses. “You can be primped, preened and pampered into another decade.”

Meanwhile, vintage singers and artists will perform throughout the day to really take you back in time.

“It’s definitely a great vintage experience,” she says excitedly. “People visiting for the first time can expect to find an array of eclectic and affordable items from some of the UK’s best traders.”

With the vintage scene becoming increasingly popular, it’s easy to see why events like Lou Lou’s are becoming more and more frequent in Hull.

“I think there’s definitely a romantic idea of owning a piece of clothing that has its own narrative and character,” Emily tells us. “And from a style perspective, you can find something that is individual and no one else will have.”

“Giving an older item of clothing a new lease of life is also more sustainable and environmentally-friendly,” she adds.

Meanwhile, if you’re totally new to vintage shopping, Emily has a few tips and tricks up her sleeve:

“Keep an open mind when looking around the fair. You never know what you might find. Try to ignore size labels because the sizing was completely different back then to how it is nowadays.”

Most stalls at the fair will encourage you to try items on in a private area of the venue. Emily says that it’s important to be completely happy with a garment before purchasing.

“Most importantly, just have fun experiencing something new,” she chuckles.

Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair is a great opportunity to find one-offs that you may not necessarily see again:

“For one day only, you can enjoy a vibrant pop-up marketplace, meet some fantastic people and treat yourself to tasty cake. Meanwhile, hear some incredible live music and enjoy something slightly different from the norm.”

Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair takes place at Hull City Hall on Saturday 20 May from 11am until 5pm. Entry is £2 on the door. For more information, please visit thevintagefair.com.
