A man is being quizzed by police in connection with a spate of robberies that led officers to warn women against walking alone in Hull after dusk.

The 26-year-old was arrested over an attack last night in which a woman had her purse taken after being threatened.

It happened on Wellington Lane at about 7.20pm and the woman, 31, was not injured. Police rushed to the area and took the man into custody on suspicion of robbing her.

There have been four other robberies in Hull in the last 14 days in which women were threatened with knives and the man is also being quizzed over those.

They were in Great Thornton Street, Walker Street, Cambridge Street and where Grosvenor Street joins Wellington Lane.

In response, officers concentrated on the area with extra patrols and warned women that they may not be safe after dark if they went out alone.
