The swift action of two Special Constables helped saved the life of a man in Hull.

Police received reports of a male having a fit on Carr Lane in the city centre on in the early hours of January 9.

After Hull Council Civic CCTV raised the alarm at 12.41am, the two Special Constables – members of the public who volunteer their time in order to support their regular colleagues – rushed to the scene.

They put the 54-year-old man into the recovery position and waited with him for an ambulance to arrive, but he stopped breathing, so they quickly moved him out of the recovery position and began CPR.

The man’s breathing soon returned to normal. He was taken to hospital for treatment where he made a full recovery.

Special Constables provide a valuable link between the police and the local community. They have the same powers as a regular officer, wear the same uniform and carry the same equipment.

In this case, the fast response and quick thinking of the two Special Constables ultimately saved the man’s life.
