This Wednesday there will be a free Jobs Fair hosted at Hull City Hall.

Jobs Fair is a national recruitment company that hosts events across the country for employers and prospective employees. The fair is completely free to attend and will be open from 10am until 2pm. In the current employability climate, every little helps when it comes to landing that dream career.

This is a fantastic opportunity to meet and greet potential employers in the region. We caught up with Sean Heppinstall, Head of Customer Success at Jobs Fair, to find out some of the key benefits of attending this event.

“Attending a Jobs Fair gives you the opportunity to directly speak face-to-face with the companies who are employing, rather than having to go through the often lengthy process of applying online, sending a CV, writing up a cover letter and waiting for their response,” Sean tells us.

“I’ve also seen some companies conduct mini interviews there on the day. They will sit them down in a quiet place next to the stand and ask a few questions.”

“I’ve even seen people walk away from our events with jobs on the very same day, it’s incredible.”

It’s the perfect chance to make a lasting first impression on employers, especially if you struggle representing your true self through a traditional CV or cover letter. With this proactive interaction, you get to meet the people who will at some point be choosing candidates for interview, so it’s the best way to show them who you are and how skilled you are.

“If it’s your first time at a Jobs Fair, I would say keep an open mind. You may have a career in mind, but it’s good to keep your options open as you never know what might be on offer,” Sean explains. “We have 40-50 companies from all different sectors.”

Some of the businesses attending the Hull Jobs Fair include Principal Resourcing, Avon, Mothercare, City Works, Hull City Council, Outcomes First Group and City Health Care Partnership CIC. A few charities will also be looking for their ideal candidates, including Cancer Research UK and Sanctuary Housing. On top of this, representatives from The Army and Royal Navy will also be in attendance.

Helen Davies, Office Administrator at Eco Brite Cleaning Services, who will be at the Jobs Fair, says: “Eco Brite are constantly recruiting. We are hoping to attract some new candidates and will be getting them to fill in application forms on the day.”

“Bring a few copies of your CV, dress your best and get yourself out there,” Sean adds.

Pop down to Hull City Hall between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 30 August to make the next move in your career. For more information, please visit the Hull Theatres website.
