Men charged after Bridlington assault

Two men have appeared in court after an incident outside a pub in Bridlington at the weekend left a man in critical condition.

The man is currently being treated for a severe brain injury by staff at Scarborough Hospital.

The 61-year-old sustained the injury after his head struck the pavement outside Prospect Street’s Half Moon Pub.

He had reportedly attempted to get involved in a row between a woman and a man on Saturday afternoon (November 7).

Police think there would have been several people who may have seen what happened just prior to 4pm.

Craig Smith, 29, and Glen Smith, 55, both from Bridlington’s Field Road, appeared before Hull magistrates on Monday (November 9).

The former appeared on a Section 18 count – grievous bodily harm with intent and two charges of assault by beating against two different people.

The latter appeared on a Section 18 count – grievous bodily harm with intent and assault by beating.

Witnesses are being asked to contact the police by ringing 101. They can quote a 358 log number from 7/11/2015.
