Missing flight Briton may be from Hull

One of the passengers on the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 may be from Hull.

The BBC has reported the man is Chi-Man Choi, a 48-year-old man who was on the plane with his two-year-old daughter.

According to his Facebook profile, Mr Choi comes from Hull originally. According to Hong Kong immigration officials, Mr Choi is a Hong Kong resident, while his LinkedIn profile says he works for French firm Alstom Power and went to Essex University.

The UK Foreign Office have confirmed a British national was on board QZ8501 and the family had been informed.

The plane experienced weather problems about two hours after taking off from Surabaya in Indonesia destined for Singapore on Sunday.

The plane requested to divert from its route because of bad weather, according to AirAsia.

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond expressed his concern for the passengers and said he was thinking about the loved ones of those who are missing.

Meanwhile AirAsia’s chief executive Tony Fernandes thanked the public for their “thoughts and prayers” adding it was important to stay strong.
