Work to extend Hull’s Victoria Dock Primary School is due to begin on Monday, the city council has announced.

The oversubscribed school will be able to teach 420 pupils rather than its current capacity of 240 when the work is completed and it will also have room for 26 nursery places.

The project has been delayed because of legal matters but Hull City Council and Hull’s Sewell Group have come up with a solution and the work can now go ahead.

The Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Stephen Brady, says the project came up against several difficult legal and logistical problems but these have been overcome.

The two-storey extension will have a new hall with changing facilities, six new classrooms and there will also be a new car park.

The council and the Sewell Group are also collaborating on the restoration of the derelict Winding House on the Dock for community use.
