The vast majority of children in Hull and wider East Yorkshire are getting accepted into the primary school of their parents’ choice.

New figures show that the proportion of Hull primary schoolchildren getting their preferred destination rose by 3% to 92%.

East Yorkshire’s figures were even better with 3,303 from 3,454 applicants (95.6%) successfully getting into their first-choice school.

Several Yorkshire local authorities saw a hike in the amount of parents getting their ideal choice for their children’s primary education. Yorkshire-wide, however, over 1,500 pupils still did not get any of their preferred establishments.

Schools and parents face supply and demand challenges in the years ahead, local authority leaders have warned.

The Local Government Association (LGA) predicts that by autumn 2016, around four in 10 English local councils will have fewer places than children wanting to fill them.
