The family of a 23-year-old student from Hull whose body was found in a London street have said they are devastated by the loss.

Mystery still surrounds the circumstances of Anthony Walgate’s death after the second-year art, fashion and design student was found dead in Barking, East London.

His mother, Sarah Sak, said that London’s Metropolitan Police had initially suspected drink or drugs in the University of Middlesex student’s death, but test results had ruled this out. A further examination will be carried out to pinpoint the cause of death.

Mrs Sak, from east Hull, paid tribute to her son, who she said had longed to be famous. She said that he had dreamed of becoming a top designer in the world of fashion and had been popular at university.

The university plans to award a certificate to promising students in Andrew’s memory. His funeral will take place next Tuesday at Chanterlands Crematorium in Hull.
