New signs have been erected along Beverley Westwood as part of a clampdown on all-day parking in the area.

Drivers who park for more than four hours at a time could be fined up to £500, after East Riding of Yorkshire Council took action following complaints that more than 100 vehicles have been flouting the restriction.

Allan English, chairman of Beverley’s Pasture Masters, hopes the new measures will work.

He said: “We don’t want to stop people coming onto the Westwood, it’s just the parking and the people that come and park all day. The people that work in the town just abuse it. You go up there in a morning now, and it’s just horrendous.

“Hopefully [these signs] will deter the people who come and park all day. Anybody who comes to walk their dog usually come for half an hour to an hour, which is fair enough, but if they want to stop longer, say four hours, I think that’s long enough for anybody.”
