Plans for both the long and short-term future of transport in the East Riding have been set out.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Cabinet has now approved the new new local transport plan (LTP), which will set the course for how the authority invests in the the transport infrastructure over the next 14 years.

The document also addresses the transport needs for the area in the next three years, and outlines a number of schemes and projects which will be rolled out across the area.

Councillor Symon Fraser, cabinet portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning, says the new LTP will help the council secure funding and secure transport projects for years to come. He said that in the last five years more than £86 million worth of funding has been allocated to the council for transport projects and this is set to continue into the future.

The LTP looks at things like road safety, bus, cycling, rail and community transport, while it also addresses strategies for each of the East Riding’s 14 main settlements.

All councils outside of London are required by the Government to prepare an LTP which addresses the strategic approach to transport in their area.
