An Asian energy business is to create hundreds of jobs in East Yorkshire.

CS Wind, a subsidiary of South Korean CS Wind Corporation, is to construct an offshore wind tower manufacturing facility – its European headquarters – in the area after it was recently awarded a £1 million government grant.

It will be the first factory dedicated solely to offshore wind towers in the UK, creating almost 200 jobs in the wind energy business and the local supply chain, but the specific location of it is not yet known.

Energy minister Matthew Hancock hopes the grant money, which came from the Regional Growth Fund, will speed up the development of the factory. He wants to see it up and running as soon as possible.

The offshore wind sector is important to the economy. It supports thousands of jobs and contributes millions of pounds each year.
