A New York based improvised comedy group are heading to Hull for the fifth consecutive year to be welcomed to the bill as part of the city’s comedy festival.

This weekend will see the start of Hull Comedy Festival, when a range of national, international and local acts take to stages around Hull from Sunday 1st November.

Over a two-week period, comedy in the form of stand-up, theatrical performance, prop-based, slapstick and more will unfold throughout the city.

Amongst the hundreds of acts performing will be the Nat Turner Revue travelling all the way from New York city in America to deliver an alternate take on comedy.

It is the fifth time they have performed at the festival and have proved to be a huge hit with audiences, making many friends and fans along the way.

This year they will take to the stage on Friday 6 November at the Best of Hullarious event at Union Mash Up and Saturday 7 November to warm up the audience at the Sailmaker’s Arms for the Best of Hull’s New Comedians.

Talking ahead of their double-bill appearance, Rich Jackson said: “We’ve visited Hull Comedy Festival a few times now and have always been welcomed with open arms.

“Sometimes comedy doesn’t translate across the Atlantic but our sets seem to go down well and we enjoy seeing others perform.

“It’s a great little festival that offers so much and we love spending time in the city too.

“So many places would strive to have a festival as thriving as this one so Hull should be very grateful.”

Speaking ahead of the start of the festival, director John Gilbert said: “We’ve had a great team of dedicated and committed volunteers, without whom this festival wouldn’t have been possible.

“Most of the hard work is over now and we can enjoy two weeks of diverse comedy. None more so than bringing over our friends from America who always deliver a funny and engaging show.”
