Hull and East Yorkshire’s secondary school education is among the poorest in the country, according to a recent Ofsted report.

The education standards watchdog placed Hull and North East Lincolnshire in the bottom third of a list ranking secondary schools, while the East Riding authority area was even worse, ranking 141st out of 150 local authorities in England.

The list was compiled based on the percentage of children in schools ranked “good” or “outstanding” by Ofsted.

According to the watchdog, Doncaster is the worst place to attend secondary school in Yorkshire and Humber, with only 37% of pupils in the authority area attending good or outstanding schools.

Nick Hudson, regional director for Ofsted, said that there were great differences between standards of education in different parts of the region.

But he added that too many young children were taught well at their primary school, only to then go on to a secondary school that needed to improve.
