‘Only Bradford worse to live in than Hull’

Hull is the second worst place to live in Britain, according to a new quality of life index.

Despite preparing to be the UK City of Culture in 2017, Hull is placed 137th out of 138 towns and cities on the latest uSwitch Quality of Life Index.

Hull has dropped seven places since the list was last compiled and, according to the index, the only place in the UK that is now worse to live in is Bradford.

When it comes to the amount of disposable income people have Hull is ranked rock-bottom alongside its West Yorkshire neighbour.

As well as income, the index takes into account 25 other lifestyle factors including unemployment rates, working hours, rent levels, how crowded schools are, life expectancy, the cost of food and energy, crime, broadband speeds and the number of hours of sunshine.

The index is topped by Edinburgh with northern neighbours York, Darlington and Berwick all making the top 10.
