The smash hit British musical Miss Nightingale runs at Hull Truck Theatre this January on the show’s fifth and final UK tour.

This tale of love, loss and hope brings the glamour of 1940s London to life. It follows feisty northern singer Maggie Brown and songwriter George as they struggle to find their big break. She works as a nurse in an East End hospital to make ends meet but longs for the bright lights; he is a Jewish refugee from Berlin but hides a dark secret in the shadows. They are noticed by the wealthy Frank, who needs a new act for his London nightclub and helps transform Maggie into the mysterious ‘Miss Nightingale’.

Miss Nightingale is the first full length musical from composer and choreographer Matthew Bugg, originally presented at the Lowry Studio and London’s King’s Head Theatre in 2011. The run sold out in the Lowry Studio (the first musical to do so) and also broke box office records at the King’s Head, becoming their best-selling late night production.

The show is performed by a talented cast who not only act, dance and sing but also play all the instruments live on stage. Matthew Bugg’s acclaimed songs, from hilarious tongue-in-cheek numbers to tender ballads, wonderfully capture the glorious spirit of wartime London.

Cast: Clara Darcy as Maggie (Forever YoungBrassed OffThe Hired Man), Nick Coutu-Langmead as Sir Frank, Connor O’Kane as George, Christopher Hogben as Tom, Matthew Bugg as Harry, and Tobias Oliver as the Stage Manager & Waiter.

Creative: Matthew Bugg (words and music), Karen Simpson (Director), Carla Goodman (Designer), David Phillips (Lighting Design).
