A Hull-based scheme offering legal advice to women who otherwise might not be able to afford it has received enquiries from across the country.

Affordable Justice Limited, which is based at the Preston Road Women’s Centre, was launched last month and centre coordinator Ann Clarkson says that interest in its services has already exceeded expectations.

She said: “We’re getting two or three referrals every day, not only women from Hull but we’ll be using Skype so we can talk to people from anywhere in the country.

“A woman from Hampshire has been in touch. I spoke with a woman’s centre in Cornwall last week. The possibilities for that are quite exciting.

“At the moment we’re dealing with the kind of orders that you might get to protect yourself with regarding domestic abuse, so it’s non-molestation orders, occupation orders and also child care proceedings.

“So if there’s any issues going on around contact if children are part of the safeguarding system then we’re representing women and children as well.”
