A Hessle Mum who is campaigning for the reinstatement of children’s mental health services in Hull says her daughter has had to be moved even further away from home.

Maisie, who is 13 and suffers from autism, was being treated at a unit in Sheffield, but has now been moved to a centre in Bury for her own safety.

A petition to reopen a unit in Hull has now reached over 10,000 signatures.

Sally Burke told KCFM that she’s been contacted by more families in the same position:

“More and more parents have contacted me saying they’re in the same boat, or that their child has been out of area. It’s disgusting that there are so many children that haven’t got a voice, and their parents are going though hell.

“Not being able to support my child fully is heartbreaking. When she needs me I’m so far away and can’t cuddle her and love her, because at the end of the day she’s 13- she’s a child.

“If this was a physical condition, I wouldn’t have to fight for absolutely everything- and complain about everything- to get my child a decent standard of care.

“It’s just physically and emotionally draining.”
