The Dancing Goat is a lovely coffee shop on Beverley Road, opposite the Haworth Arms.

With a bright and calming aesthetic, the friendly spot is very popular with students, families, and those looking for a relaxing place to enjoy a delicious bite to eat.

The menu has always been wide-ranging, with a selection of speciality sandwiches tempting the taste buds. These range from mozzarella and pesto, to bacon, brie and cranberry. Then there’s goats’ cheese and sun-dried tomato, a club sandwich, and a delectable chicken and grape variety.

Something particularly yummy is the newly added pizza panini, which could possibly be the best combination ever. Rich tomato, thick cheese and a choice of pepperoni, ham and pineapple, or vegetable. Delicious!

Something else that’s popped up on their colourful street board is tortilla baskets. The crispy tortilla is filled with mixed leaves, tomato, cucumber, onion, carrot and peppers, with a topping of your choice. These consist of goats’ cheese, bacon and walnut; chicken and bacon; or grated cheese, boiled egg and Greek or Mediterranean chicken.

We went for the classic chicken and bacon option, which was brimming with mouthwatering flavours. Freshly prepared in their kitchen and with a pot of coleslaw on the side, it’s very well priced at just £4.95.

The meat was succulent, the salad garden-fresh, and the tortilla basket perfect for breaking off into chunks and using for scooping.

This was followed by a sweet treat from the quaint desserts display on the counter. The coffee and walnut cake went down very nicely; its fluffy sponge with a light yet distinct coffee flavour was perfectly matched with a large latte.

Meanwhile, the ambience of The Dancing Goat added to this afternoon meal. A group of women were celebrating a birthday with traditional three-tiered Afternoon Tea, whilst a couple of students filled themselves up with sandwiches.

This family-run coffee shop is also ideal for breakfast. The menu presents simple choices such as toast with jam or marmalade, scrambled eggs, toasted teacakes and Danish pastries.

However, surely the best offering is their stacked American-style pancakes, which come with either crispy bacon and maple syrup, banana, chocolate and cream, or cherries and cream.

This time of year is perfect for eating outside, so you can choose from the tables adjacent to the bustling thoroughfare that is Beverley Road, or the quiet sanctuary round the back. This is called The Woodland and it’s a lovely place to sit back and chill.

With wooden surroundings, a canopy that allows the sunlight to flood in and blankets for when it’s chilly, we highly recommend taking a look.
