A road accident in a picturesque East Riding market town has left a 91-year-old pedestrian in hospital.

The woman was hurt after an incident in Pocklington’s Market Street which involved a Ford Focus on Thursday (April 14) morning.

The black-coloured car is believed to have been reversing at the time of the accident.

The pensioner suffered serious injuries and is now being treated in York Hospital.

The motorist behind the wheel of the Focus was unharmed in the accident, which happened at 11.30am.

Humberside Police officers have issued an appeal for witnesses and want to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened.

People who did can quote the reference number 245 from April 14 if they ring the Force on 101.

Market Street, located in between Chapmangate and Union Street, is one of Pocklington’s busiest roads. It stages the village’s weekly Tuesday market, whose stalls offer fresh vegetables and fruit, hand-made wooden furniture and other goods.
