There has been a spate of burglaries targeting garages and sheds in the Bridlington area over the last month.

has appealed to the public in a bid to catch the culprits, asking anyone who knows anything about the burglaries to call them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Officers say anyone noticing someone acting suspiciously or a suspect vehicle should call 999 straight away.

They urged people to report any incidents while they were still happening and not to wait until the morning if they noticed a crime under way at night.

Police also asked anyone offered items for sale that they think could be stolen to call the non-emergency phone number 101 or Crimestoppers.

Officers said thieves can find outbuildings such as garages and sheds easy to target, with tools and other equipment netting them cash.

They urged homeowners to take precautions to cut the risk of theft, including marking items to help identify them if they are stolen and always putting garden equipment away.

Police recommend locking garden gates from inside, putting in alarms and security lights on sheds and other outbuildings and using closed shackle padlocks.
