A Hull special needs teenager has had his new BMX bike recovered – thanks to the help of two public-spirited schoolboys.

Now Humberside Police has honoured them with an award.

Owen Baker and Brendon Perkins, both 13, turned detective by trying to hunt down the cycle after the devastated victim’s mother informed people about the Pickering Park theft. She told them about the impact the crime had had on her boy.

The Sirius Academy schoolboys found the new blue bike matching the description outside a Hotham Road South takeaway.

They dropped it off at the police station near the park and it was later returned to the “delighted” owner.

On Tuesday, the boys received a special Commanders Commendation from the force’s Chief Superintendent Scott Young.

The Clough Road station presentation was made to honour their “integrity” and “honesty” in helping Humberside Police to recover and return the snatched bike on August 6.
