Police officials are considering setting up a new designated transit site in Hull that travellers could be moved on to, it has been revealed.

Hull City Council has forked out around £50,000 this year to dispose of hundreds of tonnes of refuse left by travellers.

Over the summer travellers stopped at seven different sites in Bransholme, setting up new camps each time they were ordered to move on.

But speaking at the Humber Police and Crime Panel Matthew Grove, the police and crime commissioner for Humberside, said a transit facility would enable police to move travellers in to their own area.

He said the transit site could be built over the next couple of years and would stop travellers causing problems in communities.

The last few months have also seen travellers setting up camps at Orchard Park and Pickering Park in Hull and on land near Anlaby’s Haltemprice playing fields.
