Police in Hull are targeting people who have been fined by the courts but failed to pay up.

Operation Payback sees Humberside Police officers and court officials go to 205 properties in two days.

Some 18 homes around Preston Road in the east of the city have already had their visits and a woman was held before being transported to Hull Magistrates’ Court.

People who can’t find the cash to clear their unpaid fines could be sent to prison and the court has made sure it has the time to deal with fine-dodgers caught during the crackdown.

There are monthly operations to take care of people dodging fines in Hull and the bigger Operation Payback happens once a year.

Police have warned that more offenders are aiming to avoid paying court fines and get away with it. However civilian enforcement officer Les Diggle said his staff would not stop chasing anyone who has not stumped up the cash after being fined.
