People in East Yorkshire will typically splash out just over £476 on Christmas this year, the results of a new survey suggest.

But, like people across the rest of the country, the cost of the festive season is proving to be a concern for nearly half (46%) those polled in East Yorkshire.

Despite their worries, people in the county seem to be less likely to borrow money to fund Christmas than those in other areas.

While nearly one in seven (15%) people in West Yorkshire admits they may have to borrow to pay for their presents and food, the proportion fearing they will have to in East Yorkshire is only one in 14 (7%).

Among those who are planning to borrow, more than one in 20 (6%) say they will use a pay-day lender, with a similar proportion taking out another form of loan.

Typically, people in East Yorkshire are set to run up a Christmas bill of £476.53 compared to the regional average of £463.33, t he BBC poll suggests

People in North Yorkshire are expected to spend the most on Christmas – an average of £508.82 – with those in Lincolnshire expecting to spend the least (£433.16).
