Cllr Steven Brady is looking at the possibility of Yorkshire council merger

The leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Steven Brady has met with his counterpart in Leeds to discuss the potential for a combined authority for Yorkshire.

The proposal would see East Yorkshire’s councils join forces with Leeds, Bradford, York and Sheffield in a bid to secure devolution for the region. It would mean the election of a Metro-Mayor role, who would oversee issues affecting the area, such as housing, transport and policing.

It wouldn’t affect original boundaries between the councils however, and current services would continue to be run locally. It would however, mean the police and crime commissioners role would be lost.
