Rathlin Energy UK Ltd wants permission to drill a well for conventional gas exploration at their West Newton B site.

Rathlin Energy UK Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for permits to carry out exploratory drilling at a site in Holderness.

The company wants permission to drill a well for conventional gas exploration, to burn any gas produced during the drilling or testing of the well in a flare, and to discharge clean surface water from the site.

The Environment Agency says it is not an application for fracking and any permit, if granted, would not allow fracking at the West Newton B site.

A public consultation has been launched today (Monday) and runs until Friday, October 30th.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency says: “As a regulator of onshore oil and gas exploration and development in England, the Environment Agency’s role is to ensure that such activities are carried out in a way that does not harm people or the environment.

“We are carrying out a public consultation on the permit application so that local communities and other interested parties can look at the proposals and have their views taken into account before we decide whether to issue permits.”
