First Hull Trains has beaten back competition from some of the UK’s largest rail operators to be shortlisted Best Operator in the industry’s most long-standing and prestigious rail awards.

The innovative operator was shortlisted for its record results and exceptional levels of passenger service – evidenced by one of the highest customer satisfaction scores in the industry at 96%. The company was also voted the best train operating company in the UK in 2014 in an independent passenger survey.

Jeanette Lewis, On-Board Manager at First Hull Trains says: “Everybody loves Hull Trains and so we’re absolutely ecstatic to be short-listed. We might be small, but we’re definitely the biggest and best when it comes to passenger satisfaction and performance.”

Jeanette, who has worked for the company since it began in 2000 says: “The best part of the job is the way that we work together as one team. We genuinely want to deliver the best on-board experience. That’s why we’re different. We know many of our passengers by name and we really care about being the best place to work and the best operator to travel with.”

The Rail Business Awards recognise and celebrate the very best of the UK rail industry businesses. Will Dunnett, Managing Director of First Hull Trains says: “The awards give us the opportunity to benchmark ourselves against the very best operators and professionals in the industry. To be shortlisted means we are up there with some of the country’s top performers in terms of business growth, fantastic customer service and providing a great place to work.”

In addition to its commitments to passengers, First Hull Trains also boasts high-levels of staff engagement and loyalty – over a third of employees have ten-years or more continuous service. This outstanding achievement was recognised last year with the award of Investors in People Status.

First Hull Trains recently secured a further three-year extension to its track access contract to allow it to continue to run its direct services from Hull to London Kings Cross until 2019. The company has so far delivered a number of industry firsts – some alongside its parent company First Rail Holidays – including its plans to electrify the track from Hull to Selby and the launch of the world’s first, free, 4G-enabled, single-sign-up Wi-Fi across all carriages, not just first-class.

Mr Dunnett says: “To receive industry recognition for our business, and our great people is always fantastic and we’re delighted to be shortlisted.”
