William’s Den is a brand new adventure attraction for young children and their families.

The unique indoor and outdoor play area opened at the beginning of July and promises to inspire kids and their parents to play, climb and try new things. Owners Tor and Christian Carver came up with the idea after hosting a number of birthday parties for their son in their own backyard.

Now, they have opened the doors to a fantastic, eco-friendly family experience in the middle of East Yorkshire.

The beautiful site is full of exciting activities and zones, including an amphitheatre, a den making section, an indoor play area, plus zip wires, climbing frames, a tyre crane, suspended platform and several refreshment areas.

The outdoor expanse has lush open spaces and gorgeous views of the Yorkshire Wolds, making it the perfect place for adults to unwind whilst children burn off some energy. They can run around to their heart’s content and enjoy both water and sand play.

Meanwhile, the indoor Den has been specially designed by a team of highly skilled play experts. The equipment is housed in a converted barn and everything is made from responsibly sourced wood. Little ones can explore the enchanting Tree House, Forest Glade and Eagles Nest.

At the heart of William’s Den is a passion for sustainability. Every part of the attraction has been built to repurpose, reuse and recycle otherwise wasted materials.

In the meantime, they are working hard to be eco-friendly and maintain a low carbon foot print. The majority of the electricity comes from solar panels that adorn the roof of the Den, whilst the heating is powered by a large biomass boiler fuelled by wood pellets. These timber chips are a great alternative to fossil fuels.

Even flushing the loo is earth-friendly, as the toilets use harvested rainwater.

On top of all this, the floors are made from recycled foam glass, which insulates the ground and prevents damp. The hemp block walls of the den are especially important, as they remove carbon dioxide from the area. Plus the plants are locally grown in East Yorkshire.

After a day of exploring, you can grab a bite at The Kitchen Table, where Tor and the Head Chef, Stuart, have worked hard to create a nutritious and tasty menu. Pick up a light bite or snack to take away, or indulge in a hearty meal.

Their wood-fired pizzas are a popular choice when it comes to feeding the family. Meanwhile, delicious coffee is served at The Fold Yard, where there is also a toddler play area provided.

You’re also welcome to bring your own picnic and take in the stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

The essence of William’s Den is for families to have fun together. It’s about going back to basics, exploring nature, connecting with the earth and bonding with each other.

William’s Den is open Sunday to Wednesday 9:30am-5pm and Thursday to Saturday 9:30am-7pm. Day tickets for children aged 3-17 are £9.50, whilst under 3s are £3. Adults (18+) are £8 and concessions are £6.

If you love it, you can become a Friend of the Den and get access to this incredible attraction all year round.
