Catering students from Hull College are set to staff a new restaurant that is to be opened as part of a £1.6 million drive to breathe fresh life into the city’s historic indoor market.

Meanwhile, students on other college courses are set to help with other work designed to transform Trinity Indoor Market.

The last few years have seen the indoor market struggling with vacant stalls and falling numbers of visitors.

But now the college and Hull City Council are set to revamp the venue, which is located off Trinity House Lane, using funding from a £3 million government grant for the city’s Old Town. The funding has been secured from the Local Growth Fund by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership.

A further £900,000 will be used to help people set up new business ventures in the Old Town.

The market’s new eatery will be similar to the college’s existing training facility in the Horncastle Building, giving its catering students hands-on experience.
