Hundreds of voices will fill Hull City Hall with rock and pop anthems this weekend.

Established by Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Helen Garnett, the All For One Choir (AFO) is an all-inclusive collective that celebrates the power of gospel chorus.

Its members are performing their popular Rock With Us show on Saturday so we caught up with Helen to find out more.

Great to chat with you, Helen. What can we expect from the show at Hull City Hall?

It’s a mass sing featuring 400 of our choir members from Nottingham, Lincolnshire and East Riding of Yorkshire. We’re predominantly singing rock songs from artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Prince, Emeli Sande and Pink Floyd, so it’s a real mixture of music throughout the ages.

This is our sixth year doing this and for the first time we have a live band accompanying us on stage.

Can you tell us a little bit more about AFO?

I founded the choir in 2011. My background is in gospel and I decided I wanted to make gospel choral singing accessible to the masses. I started in Hull and seven years later we have ten choirs and around 700 members in total that spread across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and of course East Yorkshire.

Do you focus mainly on rock music?

We do rock, pop and gospel. However, we have done the odd bit of classical too.

We’ve worked with some high-profile people, including Steve Harley, Leona Lewis, Russell Watson, Blake and G4. We have such a great time.

It sounds really fun! How can people get involved?

We’ll be holding some taster sessions in January 2018. We have two choirs in the East Riding; one in Hull and one in Beverley. If you are keen to get involved, head over to our website.

Lastly, why should people come along to see AFO on Saturday?

It’s going to be an amazing all-inclusive show for anybody and everybody that wants to join in. The evening is very family-orientated. If you love any music, you’ll love this – it personifies everything that is good about music.

With 400 people singing along to the most well-renowned anthems in the world with a live band, it’s going to be an incredible night. Some people have compared it to a full-on rock show. We always encourage people to join in too, and there’ll be a special surprise to look forward to at the end of the show.

You can catch All For One Choir at Hull City Hall on Saturday from 7:30pm. Tickets start from £13.50 and can be purchased from the Hull Theatres website.
