Seven registered sex offenders in East Yorkshire and north Lincolnshire are missing, according to official figures.

A Freedom of Information request found that the whereabouts of some 396 individuals are currently unknown to the authorities nationwide. Humberside Police said the whereabouts of one registered sex offender had not been known since September 2004. A statement by the police force said the seven missing offenders represent less than half of one percent of all those in the force area.

The statement continued that it is believed the seven missing sex offenders have all left the country – and in the case of five of them, the country they are residing in is known to the authorities.

Registered sex offenders have to tell authorities where they are living, but the official figures show there are hundreds across the country which have gone missing.

The figures relate to missing registered sex offenders in February or early March.

The Home Office said the UK had some of the toughest powers in the world to deal with sex offenders. Meanwhile the police forces said the figures are likely to change as authorities track down offenders.

  • If it is possible to name these missing offenders then perhaps the public could throw some light on their whereabouts.
Even better place a picture on wanted posters or on sites like this, they are after all on the sexual offences register I take it, which means that they are in breech of the rules laid down by the courts.
