Motorists in Hull and East Yorkshire were forced to contend with snowy conditions on the commute and the school run this morning.

The road conditions were tricky in places and the Met Office issued a severe weather warning of snow for the area.

Anlaby Park Road South in Hull was blocked due to an accident involving three vehicles and East Yorkshire Motor Services warned its buses were running up to 45 minutes late because of traffic congestion in and around the city caused by the snow.

A jack-knifed lorry caused tailbacks on the A15 at Hessle close to the junction with the A164 until it was recovered later in the morning.

Forecasters say the day will be bright at times but scattered showers could fall as sleet along the coast and as snow further inland.

More wintry showers are expected overnight, when temperatures will dip to a chilly -3°C.
