Famous faces from show business began arriving in Hull today for this years pantomime which promises to be one of the best ever.

Headlining the list of celebrities was Loose Women’s Sherrie Hewson. Fresh from filming for TV, Sherrie took some time out to talk to HEYToday about her upcoming performance.

Sherrie, a master of stage and screen and is well-known for her role as the hapless Maureen Naylor in Coronation Street. But she told HEYToday she prefers playing a good old fashioned baddy. “One of the reasons I love panto is that I can be really mean and play up to the kids who love to hiss and shout back. That’s the magic of the show.” Sherries’ a softie at heart though and will be inviting her 3 year old Granddaughter to the show!

Hull is going to be home for Sherrie for the next couple of months as she takes up residence at Hull New Theatre as the Empresses of China in Aladdin which runs from 4th December to 4th January.

We met Sherrie as she prepared for her rehearsals and costume fitting in what promises to be a spectacular performance for kids and adults alike.

“I do love the architecture in the centre of Hull, it’s quite spectacular, there is real heritage here and I think that getting the city of culture award was very well deserved”.

Sherrie, who stars in  ITV’s hit sitcom Benidorm is also an accomplished author publishing a novel, (The Tannery) and a cookery book. HEYToday will be joining Sherrie in one of our local restaurants to talk more about her work and to get her views on our local fayre here in Hull & East Yorkshire.
