Hull and East Yorkshire Mind and Child Dynamix have received funding to train 300 people to help offer support.

Claire Thomas is from Mind: “Child Dynamix noticed in their work the need for more time to think about engaging with boys. We found that boys are more likely to have mental health issues and least likely to reach out for help.”

“We’re not saying girls aren’t facing mental health difficulties and have their own way of dealing with it. We decided that there’s a real need to focus on boys and talked to the workforce about how things needed to be changed accordingly.”

“It’s the classic argument that you can’t get away from, the ability to talk about it and to open up your feelings. Boys are concerned about ‘banter’ and how far that can go, especially concerning identity and  their masculinity.”

“The sooner you can talk about it, the sooner it’s out there and you can ask people for help. That help can be in the form of increasing confidence, building resilience, and developing coping strategies.”
