Long established as one of Beverley’s favourite pubs, the Tiger Inn on Lairgate has just undergone major refurbishment.

Landlord Allen Slinger, who took over the pub last August, decided to close it temporarily in May following significant investment from Punch Taverns.

“We’re really pleased with the refurbishment and how it looks,” Allen tells us. “The designers have done a great job in keeping the traditional feel of the place but also adding a modern contemporary element to it.”

Allen, who has worked in the pub trade for many years, says that there has been one slight structural change:

“We’ve opened up a new fireplace. It’s been a full cosmetic transformation and we’re so pleased with it. Perfect for chilly nights, and we’re sure it will prove popular in autumn and winter.”

Allen and his team have also introduced new menus at The Tiger Inn, all of which are proving very popular:

“We had to get the food offer right and we’re constantly tweaking it. Our winter and Christmas menus are just about to go to the designers, we’re very excited about them.”

On the drinks side, The Tiger Inn is tied to Punch Taverns. However, Allen works hard to get as many local ales in as possible:

“We’ve just had a beer festival featuring ales from Gene Pool and Atom in Hull, and Wold Top in Hunmanby. We have a brand new drinks menu, with a nice selection of wines, spirits and craft. Our gin menu is very popular too.”

Passionate about providing a vibrant atmosphere, the pub plays host to many special nights and events:

“We have a very popular open mic night every Thursday,” says Allen. “Our weekly quiz night is on Tuesday, and we have our folk sing-along each Friday, where performers can just turn up and join in.”

“We have many social clubs that meet here too, plus a breakfast networking group now joins us every Thursday morning. We’re very open to groups and meetings using the venue, as we have a choice of rooms. If we can accommodate you, we will!”

The pub is also dog friendly and has its very own dog station, which is fully stocked up with fresh water and biscuits:

“We even sell dog beer,” says Allen. “And one of our rooms is designated dog friendly, so if you wish to eat when you bring your dog in, you can.”

“We have a charity dog walk that takes place the first Sunday of every month at 9am from the front of the pub. It’s just £1 to come along and all proceeds go to the guide dogs.”

“We’ve been very fortunate with the weather since we reopened,” he adds. “It’s given us chance to show off our beer garden, which must be one of the best kept secrets in Beverley.”

“A mural of the town’s most famous landmarks has just been added to one of the walls, and new flowers have been planted all over. Th result is stunning.”

Allen and his team are constantly busy following the reopening. They have some new events and nights planned to go alongside those mentioned above, including weekly bingo and a monthly afternoon quiz.

“We’re about to sponsor a few local teams,” says Allen. “It’s really nice to be able to help and support people. We’re getting involved with some local charities too and are very keen to do as many fundraising events as we can.”

You can find The Tiger Inn at Lairgate in Beverley. They also have a Facebook page that includes details of upcoming events.
