Singer Tony Christie will perform before the start of the traditional Easter rugby league derby between Hull KR and Hull FC on Good Friday.

The Is This the Way to Amarillo crooner will perform a 15-minute set at the KC Lightstream Stadium before the city rivals lock horns.

“I’m excited about performing at a Hull derby. I’ve been told about the rivalry between the two clubs and I’m looking forward to being part of that atmosphere,” Christie told Hull KR’s official website.

“I love performing at sporting events and witnessing that passion from the supporters in the stands. I’m expecting both sets of fans to be in full voice so it should be a really good occasion.”

Rovers CEO Mike Smith added: “The Hull derby is one of the biggest games in Super League and we feel we’ve done it justice in attracting a performer of Tony’s calibre to sing before the game.

“I’m sure he will really get the crowd going before kick-off and add to what will already be an electric atmosphere in the ground on Good Friday.

“We’ve been outspoken about our aim to improve the match-day experience at games this season and this certainly fits into that. We had X Factor’s Ray Quinn performing before the St Helens game a few weeks ago for younger supporters, but Tony appeals to an older generation of fans as well.

“His music is well-known to everybody and we’re excited to see him perform on the pitch here at the KC Lightstream Stadium.”
