Catering for men and women, independent boutique Chinese Laundry has been at the heart of Hull’s vintage scene for 13 years.

They stock a wide range of wares from the 60s right through to the 90s, as well as their own reworked and original designs.

We popped in to find out what people will be wearing over spring and summer.

Outfit 1

“This outfit (above) is great for this time of year,” sales assistant Charlie Morrill points out.

“Florals never date and the dress is really lightweight, perfect for the warmer months.”

Outfit 2

“This paisley shift dress is the first of our original designs,” explains Charlie.

“It’s made from a single roll of vintage fabric by our resident seamstress Abbie.”

Again, a paisley pattern is a timeless classic for the summer months: “It’s one of those patterns that both men and women can enjoy every year.”

Outfit 3

“Another really great outfit for spring,” enthuses Charlie. “This time, it’s a vintage 90s dress with a retro vibe.”

“Add a bandana to mix it up or get your hair out of your face on a blustery day.”

Outfit 4

“A Bardot top and a pair of shorts are staples for festival season,” says Charlie.

“These items are both reworked pieces. The top is made from a vintage fabric and the shorts are cut from Levi’s 501s.”

Adding details such as a leather belt can really make an outfit and tie it all in together.

Something as simple as a shorts and T-shirt combination can be made to look and feel special.

Outfit 5

“Viscose shirts are really versatile and easy to wear,” Charlie tells us.

“This look is very casual with the rolled up jeans, wonderful for an everyday outfit.”

Shirt: £28 / Jeans: £25 / Sunglasses: £8 / Converse: £18

Outfit 6

“Again, this dress is one of our reworked pieces. It’s made from two pieces of clothing actually: a cord shirt and a viscous shirt. I honestly don’t know how Abbie does it!”

Outfit 7

“This look is very laid back and bohemian, brilliant for the festival season,” Charlie exclaims.

“The trousers are made of viscose, so they’re super lightweight and cool.”

The Valley Girl style shirt is another example of Chinese Laundry’s reworked pieces. You could dress this up with a smart trouser, or down with something more relaxed like this.
