The inaugural Tour de Yorkshire will pass through Beverley, it has been confirmed.

East Riding tourism portfolio holder Councillor Jane Evison has said the town will be on the route of the new race, which has been established following the success of the 2014 Grand Depart, which took in much of North and South Yorkshire.

But much of this year’s three-day race, which will start in May, will take place in East Yorkshire.

Another confirmed venue for the race is Bridlington, which will host either the start or the finish of one of the stages.

It is hoped the Tour de Yorkshire will be established as the country’s second most prestigious annual cycling event after the Tour of Britain. It will also put the area in the international spotlight, with the stages set to televised across Europe.

Scarborough, York, Selby, Leeds and Wakefield have all been confirmed as start or finish locations with the full details of the route set to be revealed later this month.
