Around 90 builders, electricians and decorators from across East Yorkshire have joined forces to rebuild a terminally ill man’s home in Rise, near Skirlaugh.

The project, for an episode of BBC One show DIY SOS, got under way this week and must be completed within nine days in accordance with the programme’s rules.

Nick Knowles, who presents the show, has paid tribute to those who got involved, saying that the effort shown by people in the area has been amazing.

He went on to say that a lot of people had given up their free time to rebuild the house for the man and his family.

The man’s i dentity will not be revealed until the show airs next year, but a lot of local people have been glad to help him.

The managing director of one of the firms who contributed to the project said he had been motivated to take part by the tough times the family had faced.

He said he had enjoyed the teamwork and couldn’t wait to see the reaction of the family.
