Carrot Productions returns to the city on Saturday 30 December with their amazing Christmas show.

The afternoon and evening performances involve The Snowman film and a number of other equally stunning festive stories set against the backdrop of incredible live music. You may even get to meet The Snowman himself! We spoke with Marketing Manager Jo Mohan to discover more about this bewitching, must-see production.

What can we expect from Carrot Productions this year?

The concert begins with a Christmas overture and introduction to the orchestra. Then, we ease into The Snowman Express. Created by Dan Wibley, this enchanting story shows The Snowman struggling to get to the venue and is accompanied by gorgeous illustration. It’s quite similar to the Polar Express film in regards to its theme and tone.

The Bear and Piano follows. This piece is based on the acclaimed children’s book by talented author and illustrator David Litchfield. We have specially commissioned animation and music to accompany the story.

Our orchestra plays along with moving images and the tale will be narrated by Joanna Lumley. We’re so lucky to have her on board and her distinctive voice truly adds to this already charming section of the programme. Honestly, it just melts my heart every time I see it.

After this, The Snowman arrives and mingles with the audience as they are absorbed by this classic narrative. Our professional orchestra plays alongside the iconic film in perfect synchronicity. It really is a brilliant show and just stirs something inside of you.

It sounds like a magical experience. With many kids not wanting to actively listen to classical and orchestral music, do you think The Snowman is a good introduction to this genre?

Absolutely. We combine the music with fun graphics and animations and both the little ones and their parents are absolutely mesmerised. We constantly get comments from grownups praising us that we managed to captivate their young toddlers, who have never concentrated or sat still for this length of time before.

I think it’s because the atmosphere is so fantastic, especially on a cold winter’s evening.

And of course, some of the youngsters will be involved in the show?

Yes. We ran auditions back in September and now we have two local children who sing solos to Walking in the Air with our wonderful orchestra. For Hull City Hall, this is Madeline Radmall and Mia Singh. It really does send shivers down your spine when they begin to sing the famous song.

You can see The Snowman at Hull City Hall on Saturday 30 December at 1:30pm and 4pm. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit the Hull Theatres website.
