Hull KR coach James Webster insists their pre-season drubbing by Hull FC will have no bearing on the outcome of Friday’s derby showdown.

Rovers were thrashed 60-20 by their city rivals at the KC Stadium in January, but Webster believes that result has been consigned to history as both sides attempt to resurrect their campaigns against one another.

The Robins go into Good Friday’s game at the KC Lightstream Stadium having secured their first win of the season against Salford last Sunday, while Hull FC ended a three-game losing streak by beating Wakefield two days earlier.

January’s pre-season mauling was followed by a six-game losing sequence that cost Chris Chester his job as Rovers coach, but Webster is adamant that his players will not be intimidated by that result when they step onto the field on Friday.

“Teams have turned that stuff around pretty quick from one week to the next,” the Australian said. “I’ve known teams to get beaten by 50 (points) one week and win the next.

“There’s a lot at stake for each club with it being a normal derby, without having to think about what happened in the friendly.

“Obviously it was a tremendous result for Hull FC. I watched the game and I thought they played particularly well. We need to be good so that doesn’t happen (again).”
