Cycling enthusiasts will be able to see Sir Bradley Wiggins in the saddle in East Yorkshire this May.

Wiggins, who has announced he is to start his own cycling team, will take part in the Tour de Yorkshire – that gets underway in Bridlington on May 1.

He is leaving Team Sky to start ‘Team Wiggins’ and one of the first events in the developmental squad’s diary is the first-ever Tour de Yorkshire, a three-day event around the county following on from its starring role in last year’s Tour de France.

Speaking on The Cycling Podcast last week, Wiggins said he would be doing both the Tour and the prestigious Paris-Nice stage race, which is currently underway and finishes on Sunday.

As he is the current time trial world champion Wiggins will wear the rainbow jersey in a major race for the last time on Sunday.

The first stage of the Tour de Yorkshire starts in Bridlington on May 1 and ends 174km later in Scarborough. The following two stages are from Selby to York and Wakefield to Leeds on May 2 and May 3 respectively.
